Running Windows Update
Windows 9x/ME/2000
Start Internet Explorer. Click Tools -> Windows Update.

Click the Scan for updates link.

Check the Critical Updates and Service Packs section. If there are any updates here, INSTALL THEM! Also, you can install any updates listed in the Windows 2000 (or Windows XP or Windows 98) and Driver Updates sections but they are not required. Click the Review and install updates link. If you have updates to install they will be listed here. Click the Install Now button to install all listed updates. Some updates, such as IE upgrades and Service Packs, will need to be installed separately.

Repeat the steps above until all updates have been installed. As a rule of thumb, the Windows Update site should be checked once a month.

Windows XP
Start Internet Explorer. Click on Tools -> Windows Update.

If you are prompted to install new software for the newer Windows update, do so. When the install finishes and you are returned to this screen, click on the link for Express Install.

Download and install any updates that are needed. Repeat the process until you have installed all of the High Priority Updates.

It is recommended to visit Windows update at least once a month to check for updates. When new updates are released an alert will be posted on the Computer Support website.
